IMC / Mosaic Peace River Park Boardwalk
Homeland, FloridaProject Description/Services
Madrid Engineering Group, Inc. served as the geotechnical consultant on the design team responsible for the design of an additional 3000 feet of boardwalk at IMC / Mosaic Peace River Park located along the west bank of the Peace River in Homeland, Florida.
The park consists of a parking area, restrooms and several thousand feet of elevated wood boardwalk that winds through the forested floodplain along the bank of the Peace River. The boardwalk was intended to allow access to the undisturbed portions of the floodplain for nature viewing. As such, limited clearing of trees was permitted during the design and construction phases of the project and minimal impact to the natural setting was allowed, making design very challenging. Due to the clearing and environmental restrictions on this project, no heavy drilling equipment was used on this site. Only equipment that could be carried in by hand was used to collect soils and density information for the soils characterization.Extensive organic muck was found in the swamplands surrounding the river and timber piles were designed to support the boardwalk. The new portions of the boardwalk were intended to match the style and design of the existing boardwalk as much as possible while adhering to current building codes.
