Community Involvement

MEG believes in contributing in a big way to our local community and beyond.  The world is full of needs, and we go beyond engineering to show our compassion and our humanity when we engage ourselves in these needs.

Locally
On the local level, MEG supports our educational facilities, including Bartow High School and the International Baccalaureate (IB) School.   We financially support the high school athletic program as Bartow Super Boosters.  We also support local athletic clubs such as the Bartow Soccer Club’s competitive travel team, the “Sting.”
Our staff are members of local civic organizations, like the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, the Central Florida Development Council, Rotary Clubs International, and Bartow Leadership XIII.   These organizations help us to contribute to our communities in the areas of planning, growth management, the economy, and governmental affairs.  When we are connected to other engaged citizens, good things can happen: group planning and organization, finding a direction, and above all, achieving our collective goals.

Statewide & Nationally
Madrid Engineering also contributes dollars and prayers when disaster strikes, such as the many  hurricanes that have hit the gulf coast of the United States, and beyond.  We have contributed to Katrina relief, and also learned about the engineering aspects of the damage and repair methods through Internet ‘webinars’ hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers.  When hurricanes went through our county and did tremendous damage, we bought tarps for our staff and helped them to secure their homes during cleanup.  Some even went on the rooftop of their co-workers’ house and did repairs! By helping one another, we learn to become more of a family.

Worldwide
We are concerned about underdeveloped countries, and basic necessities that are lacking.  For example, the lack of safe drinking water affects more than a billion people worldwide.  We can and should do something about that. Along with other concerned engineering professionals from central Florida, we have committed to help fund a water treatment plant installation in Africa in 2009 through Water Missions International, a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to bringing clean, healthful drinking water and the Living Water of Jesus Christ to small communities in need.   The purchase, shipping and installation cost for a typical 10,000 gallon/day installation (for a small tribe or village) is $20,000.  Perhaps you would like to help as well.  For more information, follow the link below.

MEG believes in meeting both physical needs and spiritual needs of the various people groups of the world.  We support the efforts of Samaritan’s Purse (http://www.samaritanspurse.org/) , an international Christian relief organization most often associated with Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham.  We support TransWorld Radio
(http://www.trw.org/), especially their programs that help people learn to read and improve their farming methods via radio programs that also teach about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  On a personal level, MEG has financially supported missions trips taken by employees to faraway places such as Venezuela, Portugal, and Zambia, and we also support efforts by our staff in their own churches, meeting the needs of their neighbors and friends.
